What is a pine bark beetle?
The Pine Bark Beetle is an insect or bug that attacks pine trees. They are attracted to tress in distress or drought stressed trees. The Pine Bark Beetle is typically the size of a grain of rice and bores a hole through the bark and into the Phloem, Cambium and Xylem layers of the pine tree. Much like our veins and arteries these layers are the vascular layers of the tree.
They may be small, but the Pine Bark Beetle attacks the tree in large numbers so that the amount of bore holes in the tree is in the hundreds to the thousands. By the end of it the vascular layer of the tree is interrupted to the point that nutrients are no longer able to make it to the crown of the tree and the tree dies. This takes as little as 14 days from the time the first beetle enters the tree. It may have already been 10 days or more by the time you notice that your tree is infested with Pine Bark Beetles.
What Does Humble Arborist do?
A few small holes are drilled around the base of the tree. A small plug, known as the Arborplug™, is inserted into one drilled hole in the tree at a time. A needle is inserted into the Arborplug™ and formulation is injected. Formulations are quickly distributed up through the trunk, branches and leaves of the tree. The Arborplug™ keeps the injected formulation inside the tree, protects it, and stays inside the tree with no negative reactions. In time the tree grows right over the Arborplug and the tree fights the infestation from the inside-out.
What are the benefits to this method?
There is no toxic mess left behind. There are no chemicals left behind in the soil or in the air so it is safe for your animals and children. The success rate is high and the results are supported by proven university trials. Long term treatment and prevention will benefit you for about two years! Safe for use near rivers, streams, lakes, and federal/state land.
What methods do not work?
Spraying the trees does not work! Spraying is only appropriate for parasites that will actually come in contact with the insecticide. Pine Bark Beetles are deep inside the tree where the solution can not reach them. Spraying is generally messy and will kill the beneficial insects such as butterflies, lady bugs, and honey bees. Spraying is illegal near waterways and is toxic for fish. Sprayed on insecticides requires large amounts of solution and will usually wash off in the rain.
What does it cost?
Application cost is based on trunk diameter, product used, and labor for application. Call Humble Arborist to set up a consultation TODAY and we will send an estimate to you explaning the cost and necessary process of Pine Bark Beetle treatment or Pine Bark Beetle Management!
